Eerie ‘Land of Oz’ theme park in North Carolina is opening up for tours

Its reputation was short-lived — the destination shut down in 1980 a fire took down and following its owner passed away the website’s Emerald City.

It hasn’t been left totally abandoned, though. In 1991, the park was opened for one day to curious visitors. So that as we’ve previously noted, locals took it upon themselves to keep the amusement park in relative working order to open for your annual “Autumn in Oz” event.

But this year, as they did last year, it is opening up on Fridays in June for visitors to come and enjoy an entirely different kind of Oz.

During your visit to the Territory of Oz meet Dorothy and accompany her on a tour of her country home — right before you are whisked by a cyclone away to the yellow brick road. This massive winding path reaches entirely across the top of Beech Mountain, and is manufactured from 44,000 actual yellow bricks.

Tickets for your scheduled tours are for sale now for $25. For more information to the playground also to get tickets, check out the “Land of Oz” website.
