Lighting Improvements Coming to North Carolina’s Major Roads

Drivers will be seeing more of the streets across North Carolina this fall.

The Department of Transportation is announcing plans to update over 10,600 roadway light fixtures throughout the state.

The updated lighting will include LED lights that the DOT says will cost less and require reduced maintenance.

Improvements are planned for Triad interstates 40, 77, 85, 73, and 74.

Rest stops, weigh stations, county maintenance facilities, and visitor facilities will also receive light repairs

Building work is scheduled to begin in September 2017.

Initial locations have yet to be determined.

The lighting upgrades are anticipated to be finished by November 2018.
